Euromodel 99/008 - La Renommée, 18th Century French Frigate kit 1:70

Di questa nave, purtroppo, le notizie storiche sono poche o quasi nulle.
La Renommeée è stata varata in Francia nel 1744 nei Cantieri Byrone o Brest era una Fregata da 40 cannoni progettata da Antoine Groignard con 30 cannoni da 12 libbre e 10 cannoni da 8 libbre . Fu catturato dalla Marina Britannica (HMS Dover) 27 settembre 1747 e convertita in un Fregata di 5° rango da 30 cannoni e prese il nome di HMS Renown e prestò servizio fino al 1771.
Questa fregata ha una grande importanza nell'evoluzione di questo tipo di nave perché, come scrive E.H.H. Archibald nel libro The Wooden Fighting Ship, fu catturata nel 1747 dagli inglesi i quali s'ispirarono ad essa iniziando a costruire una serie di fregate di 5’ rango armate con soli 30 cannoni di grosso calibro sul ponte di batteria.

History:
There were two Renommee’s built in France, one in the 17 Century and this one in the 18 Century. Launched in 1744 at either Byrone or Brest, La Renommee was a one-off 40-gun ship designed by Antoine Groignard with 30 12-pounders and 10 8-pounder guns. She was captured by the British Navy (HMS Dover) 27 September, 1747 and converted into a 30-gun fifth-rate frigate as the HMS Renown and served until she was broken up in 1771.
However, this type of frigate is very important in the evolution of ships of the British Navy because it inspired the development of a series of fifth-rate frigates equipped with only thirty guns of large calibre, all placed on the second deck.
