Cenni storici:

Le feluche, non si distinguono soltanto dal modo di costruzione delle imbarcazioni in vigore nel XVII secolo in Europa attraverso le loro poppe arrotondate con sopra applicato il cassero di poppa stretto, ma anche per i loro scafi arrotondati in modo pronunciato Come anno di nascita di queste feluche viene indicato il 1595. Le feluche avevano un albero di trinchetto ed un albero maestro con vela quadra ed un albero di mezzana con una randa da mezzana latina. Le feluche erano costruite più lunghe e più strette rispetto alle più vecchie imbarcazioni a vela quadra. Esse erano imbarcazioni veloci; abbisognavano solamente di piccolo equipaggio ed erano perciò molto economiche. Come inventore di questa innovazione viene citato Pieter J. Lioorne - Hoorn (Olanda). In Germania la prima feluca venne costruita a Lubecca nel 1618 e l’ultima intorno al 1780. Come esempio viene citata la feluca "Friede", costruita nel 1682 nel principesco cantiere navale di Berlino, la cui lunghezza sul dritto di prua era di metri 32 La feluca "Derfflinger" aveva due ponti: un fraponte continuo e di sopra un secondo ponte. Nello spazio sottostante il fraponte si trovavano a prua, la cambusa, come pure diversi vani per I’immagazzinamento delle munizioni, dei viveri e delle botti d’acqua. Sotto questi vani veniva collocata la zavorra, costituita per lo più da pietre. Nel fraponte, la cui parte posteriore conteneva soltanto due cannoni da tre libbre, si trovava, dietro L’albero di trinchetto, la grande bitta per la posa dei cavi dell’ancora, che attraverso un boccaporto, conduceva all’apertura di scarico.
La feluca aveva una lunghezza di 110 piedi ed una larghezza di 23 piedi ed era armata da 3 a 16 cannoni. Nel 1683 aveva a bordo 6 cannoni da due libbre e due da una libbra e tra 15 e 20 uomini di equipaggio.

History:

The fluyts are different to ships used in Europe in the seventeenth century not only for their round shape with a lowered quarter deck but also for their pronounced round shaped-hull. Their dimensions were long and hulls of a very narrow cross-section compared to other square-sailed vessels.
They were first produced in 1595 with square sails on their foremast and main mast and a lateen spanker on the mizzenmast. These vessels were fast but requiring only a small crew to operate them and had the advantage of being cheap to build
Pieter J. Lioorne-Hoorn (Holland) is credited with their design with the first feluccas built in Lubecca, Germany in 1618. The last one was built around 1780. The ‘Friede’ fluyt, as an example was built in Berlin in the dockyards of Berlin in 1682 – its length was 32 metres.
‘Derfflinger’ had two decks. Towards the bow was located the galley and areas for the storage of munitions, food and water. Below these areas was the stone ballast. Towards the stern, there were medium-size cannons and the compass. The forecastle generally contained four cannons, as did the stern area and quarter deck.
By the end of the 17th century the fluyt Derfflinger belonged to the fleet of the Dutch-based Kurfuerstentum Brandenburg. In the "triangle trade" of that time she transported rum and other stuff to Africa, to buy slaves, who were then exchanged in the West Indies for sugar, which was then brought to Europe. Later she and other Brandenburg ships were used in the War of the Spanish Succession.
