L’Amphion, progettato e realizzato come imbarcazione veloce, ad uso e diletto del re di Svezia Gustavo III, fu impiegato però anche in battaglie navali, come la vittoriosa
battaglia navale di Svenksund contro l’impero russo. Varato nel 1778, venne costruito nei cantieri di Djurgarden (Stoccolma) su progetto di Fredrik Chapman, il primo architetto navale che codificò la progettazione degli scafi su precisi rapporti matematici, anziché attenersi esclusivamente ai canoni empirici, come si usava a quei tempi.
Il nostro modello è stato portato a
termine in base a documenti originali dell’epoca e riproduce la nave come si presentava attorno al 1790.

Designed and built as a fast vessel for the use of king Gustav III of Sweden, it was also used in naval battles such as the victorious Battle of Svenskund against the Russians. Launched in 1778, it was built to a design of Fredrik Chapman in the Djurgarden shipyard in Stockholm. Chapman was the first naval architect to codify the design of the hull on the basis of precise mathematical ratios, rather than relying exclusively on empirical methods common at that time.
Our model is based on original documents of the period and
shows the ship as it looked in 1790.
