Description

La Greyhound era una fregata da 20 cannoni studiata da Stacey, varata nel cantiere navale di Deptford il 13.2.1720. Poco si conosce della sua storia marinara, pare che assieme ad altre imbarcazioni molto simili, venne impiegata nel Mediterraneo per combattere i pirati che ne infestavano Ie coste.
II periodo dal 1600 al 1700 segnò la fine di questo tipo di imbarcazioni, caratterizzate ancora da 2 file di remi poste sotto Ie batterie dei cannoni, utilizzate nelle manovre a bassa velocità, o in assenza di vento.
II Greyhound, come altre navi della stessa epoca, era molto elegante, ben rifinito e sobriamente decorato. La ricostruzione in scala 1:100 è il frutto di ricerche attraverso stampe, libri, modelli esposti in alcuni musei, il risultato è una imbarcazione che ben rappresenta il periodo storico al quale appartiene.

The Greyhound was a 20-gun frigate studied by Stacey, launched at the Deptford shipyard on 13.2.1720. Little is known about her seafaring history, it seems that together with other very similar boats, she was used in the Mediterranean to fight the pirates who infested its coasts.
The period from 1600 to 1700 marked the end of this type of boats, still characterized by 2 rows of oars placed under the gun batteries, used in maneuvers at low speed, or in the absence of wind.
The Greyhound, like other ships of the same era, was very elegant, well finished and soberly decorated. The 1: 100 scale reconstruction is the result of research through prints, books, models exhibited in some museums, the result is a boat that well represents the historical period to which she belongs.
